Censor Board bans Velu Prabhakaran’s Kaadhal Arangam

Written by admin on Monday, May 26th, 2008 in Movies.

2647Kadhal_Arangam00.jpgThe Indian Censor Board banned the film Kaadhal Arangam, in which open sex in the family and nudity has been emphasized. The film is produced and directed by Velu Prabhakaran. He launched the film nearly 3 years ago with a new face actress Sherly Dass playing the female lead role. Velu himself appeared in the film as Periyar E.V.Ramasamy in a few scenes. Sherly appeared completely nude in 5 scenes in the film and there were two “open-air” sex scenes also in the film.

Velu had completed this film in 2004 but he couldn’t release the film in India due to the objections by Censor Board. After the rejection by the Censor Board in Chennai, Velu took film to the Delhi tribunal for review. The tribunal had watched the movie last week under the chairmanship of Shobha Dixit and discussed various aspects of the film over the past 5 days. Many of the board members objected to the abrupt nudity and sexual inter course of the hero and heroine. Finally they decided to reject the certification for Kaadhal Arangam and recommended the Government to ban the film from being screened anywhere in India.
Today after he got to hear about the ban, we asked Velu Prabhakaran on what he would do next. He replied in anger: ‘It is purely the massacre on the freedom of expression that has been achieved by banning my film. I made the film with the intention of educating my audience with the need to curb the crime rate (through good cinema). But nobody understands the point that I am trying to make through the film. They are running away from the main cause of the film. It will never take advantage of youngsters to make my film a success. He added, “Sex is not a sin. Whenever we try to hide it from young people, they will eventually get their way and get exposed to it in other ways. So we should be open about it to everybody…that is the root story of the movie. I will go to the Supreme Court to get the film released! The director has decided to move the Apex Court to revoke the ban and get permission to screen the film.” Source: OneIndia

Wanted

Written by admin on Thursday, May 15th, 2008 in Movies.

Based upon Mark Millar’s explosive graphic novel series and helmed by stunning visualist director Timur Bekmambetov—creator of the most successful Russian film franchise in history, the Night Watch series—Wanted tells the tale of one apathetic nobody’s transformation into an unparalleled enforcer of justice. In 2008, the world will be introduced to a hero for a new generation: Wesley Gibson. 25-year-old Wes (James McAvoy) was the most disaffected, cube-dwelling drone the planet had ever known. His boss chewed him out hourly, his girlfriend ignored him routinely and his life plodded on interminably. Everyone was certain this disengaged slacker would amount to nothing. There was little else for Wes to do but wile away the days and die in his slow, clock-punching rut. Until he met a woman named Fox (Angelina Jolie). After his estranged father is murdered, the deadly sexy Fox recruits Wes into the Fraternity, a secret society that trains Wes to avenge his dad’s death by unlocking his dormant powers. As she teaches him how to develop lightning-quick reflexes and phenomenal agility, Wes discovers this team lives by an ancient, unbreakable code: carry out the death orders given by fate itself. With wickedly brilliant tutors—including the Fraternity’s enigmatic leader, Sloan (Morgan Freeman)—Wes grows to enjoy all the strength he ever wanted. But, slowly, he begins to realize there is more to his dangerous associates than meets the eye. And as he wavers between newfound heroism and vengeance, Wes will come to learn what no one could ever teach him: he alone controls his destiny

In the all-new action comedy “Get Smart,” Maxwell Smart (Steve Carell) is on a mission to thwart the latest plot for world domination by the evil crime syndicate known as KAOS. When the headquarters of U.S. spy agency Control is attacked and the identities of its agents compromised, the Chief (Alan Arkin) has no choice but to promote his ever-eager analyst Maxwell Smart, who has always dreamt of working in the field alongside stalwart superstar Agent 23 (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson). Smart is partnered instead with the only other agent whose identity has not been compromised: the lovely-but-lethal veteran Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway). As Smart and 99 get closer to unraveling KAOS’ master plan—and each other—they discover that key KAOS operative Siegfried (Terence Stamp) and his sidekick Shtarker (Kenneth Davitian) are scheming to cash in with their network of terror. Given little field experience and even less time, Smart—armed with nothing but a few spy-tech gadgets and his unbridled enthusiasm—must defeat KAOS if he is to save the day.

Mister Lonely

Written by admin on Thursday, May 15th, 2008 in Movies.

Only Harmony Korine (writer of KIDS, auteur of GUMMO, JULIEN DONKEY-BOY) could weave Michael Jackson, Marilyn Monroe, her daughter Shirley Temple and flying nuns into a hypnotically funny and truly poignant tale of the instability behind fanaticism and the redemption we can hope to find in one another. The film follows a lonely Michael Jackson impersonator (Diego Luna) who is invited by a beautiful Marilyn Monroe (Samantha Morton) to a commune full of other impersonators including the Queen of England, Madonna, Sammy Davis Junior and James Dean, in the Scottish Highlands. In a parallel story line, the incomparable Werner Herzog plays a Latin American priest who learns his missionary of nuns can literally fly.

The Movie : Brideshead Revisited

Written by admin on Thursday, May 15th, 2008 in Music.

A provocative and suspenseful drama, “BRIDESHEAD REVISITED” tells an evocative story of forbidden love and the loss of innocence set in the pre-WWII era. In the film, Charles Ryder (Matthew Goode, “Match Point,” “The Lookout”) becomes entranced with the noble Marchmain family, first through the charming and provocative Sebastian Flyte(Ben Whishaw, “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer”), and then his sophisticated sister, Julia (Hayley Atwell, “Cassandra’s Dream” and the upcoming “The Duchess”). The rise and fall of Charles’ infatuations reflect the decline of a decadent era in England between the wars. Academy Award-winner Emma Thompson co-stars as Lady Marchmain. The film, based on Evelyn Waugh’s acclaimed novel is adapted for the screen by multiple BAFTA Award-winner Andrew Davies (“Bridget Jones Diary,” “Bleak House”) and Jeremy Brock (“The Last King of Scotland”) and directed by Julian Jarrold (“Becoming Jane”).
