What is an App tab in Firefox 5?

App tab is a handy convenient that tabs displayed as an icon, which is user configurable. This is only available in Firefox 5.0.

Why we need an App tab?
We use to visit some particular web site in a regular basis, most probable every time we surf the web. Webs like facebook.com and tweeter.com, and of cause your email. When you setup an app tab with your most visited sites, these pages will be loaded automatically every time you start Firefox. As the app tab shows only its icon, its saves space for other tabs- normal tabs. Also these special tabs will show up blink as those pages getting changed, and updated.

How to setup an App tab
Open a tab with your web page and right click on the tab, this will prompt a sub menu with ‘pin as app tab’, click on it. You will see in the left top corner of the browser that a new icon displayed.

How to remove an App tab
It’s the similar to the steps of configuration it. Just right click over an app tab, and you will see a submenu called ‘unpin tab’, just click on it, and you are done.

How to change the URL for an App tab?
This can be done in two ways. One, you can remove an App tab as mentioned above then add again with the new url, Alternatively you just click on the App tab of which you are plan to change and type the new address in the address bar. It will be saved with this app tab in future.
